Gray cast on all sheets

Swapped my empty HP 78A toner cartridge for a new one, and am now getting a light gray cast evenly across each page. Is there any way to clean this up?

Assuming nothing else has changed, (moved to new location, new device on the same circuit such as a portable heater) one of two possibilities, either a bad contact, try reseating the cartridge, if that does not fix it, assume you have a defective cartridge and get your dealer to replace. HP has print quality guarantee on their cartridges.

Thanks very much. Reseating hasn't helped, and there have been no changes on the circuit, so I assume it's a defective cartridge.

Not a defective cartridge. I reinstalled the old cartridge and see the same grey cast.

I did choose 'Warn Me in 3 Days' when twice prompted with the message that the last cartridge might be getting low. Perhaps that damaged the fuser? The printer is reporting a little over 12,000 pages printed over its life.
