HP Smart working improper. I scan, go to more setting, page disappears. Reinstalled, no help.  Also, when I scan a picture, it shows a shadow or light grey tint on scan and shows on paper print out. I have several pages bad and at this point I'm ready to hook my old HP printer back up. If not for this problem, printer is great.

Hi @tozy-56

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're dealing with two separate issues: the HP Smart app crashing and the shadow or grey tint on scanned images.

Let's tackle them one at a time:

1. HP Smart App Crashing

  • Update the App
Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store.
  • Run the App Troubleshooter
Windows 11 has a built-in troubleshooter for apps. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and select the app troubleshooter.
  • Clear Cache and Data
If the app allows, clear its cache and data to resolve potential glitches.
  • Reinstall with Admin Rights
Uninstall the app, restart your computer, and reinstall it as an administrator.

2. Shadow or Grey Tint on Scanned Images

  • Clean the Scanner Glass
Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can cause shadows or tints. Use a lint-free cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner to clean the glass.
  • Check the Document Placement
Ensure the document is placed flat against the scanner glass without folds or creases.
  • Calibrate the Scanner
Some HP printers allow scanner calibration through the settings menu or HP Smart app. Look for this option and follow the instructions.
  • Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause scanning issues. Check for updates on HP's support page.
  • Test with Different Documents
Try scanning a different document to see if the issue persists.
This can help identify if the problem is with the scanner or the document.
