HP PHOTOSMART C4585 PRINTER
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

HOW CAN I CHECK THE INK LEVELS ON MY HP PHOTOSMART C4585 PRINTER?   i HAVE TRIED LOOKING IT UP ON GOOGLE BUT ALL I GET IS:

  • Click the start menu and search for ‘Devices and Printers’.
  • Select devices and printers in the search bar. This will allow you to see the printers connected to the computer.
  • Click the printer you want to check, and you’ll see the ink levels at the bottom of the devices and printers section. It will appear under the status area
  • LOOK FOR THE INK ICON BUT THERE ISN'T ONE AND SO ON
  • I ALSO TRIED TO ASK HP BUT ALL I GET IS THE VIRTUAL AGENT AND IT WAS A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME I EVEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO A REAL PERSON AND THE VIRTUAL AGENT COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION

THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW I CAN SPEAK TO A REAL PERSON FROM HP SUPPORT ON WEB CHAT OR PERHAPS AN EMAIL ADDRESS THAT I CAN SEND TO IN UNITED KINGDOM AND SPEAKING  ENGLISH

I DO HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME

I am sorry you are stuck...

Product introduced somewhere between 2008 and 2011 (cannot find an exact reference to this model).

The biggest barrier in this scenario is that the printer is older and the printer software is outdated and no longer supported.

The printer software is the primary method used to access the information you seek.

Side Bar / Semi-related - Printer Software

In most cases, the 14.x version of the printer software was dependent on Flash - Flash is permanently disabled as of 12-Jan-2021.  The various proffered solutions for that issue are posted elsewhere in the Community (or you can start a new thread of your own to ask that question).

What to do?

 User Guide

The User Guide mentions that you can at least tell whether the ink needs to be changed by printing a Self-Test.

What else?

Speaking with HP is not an option - the printer is many years out of Warranty.

Even assuming a device is in Warranty, HP does not provide warranty service case submission via Email.

The HP Virtual Assistant is primarily a search and retrieve program - it doesn't understand some questions and cannot answer questions for unsupported options or out-of-warranty devices.  Just a code limitation.
