CF145a (M276nw)

Hello All,

After installing a recently purchased cartridge listed as a genuine HP 131A CF212A one that is recognized by my LaserJet M276nw (CF145a) printer as "Non-HP Yellow Cartridge / Order CB542A" and still prints perfectly well I found a whole lot of seemingly compatible cartridges, particularly these (although perhaps more exist, at least I've briefly seen some Xerox ones too when googling):

- HP 125A (CB540A-CB543A)
- HP 128A (CE320A-CE323A)
- HP 131A/131X (CF210A-CF213A)
- Canon 731/731H
- Canon 716/716H

Could anyone please confirm which ones of these are compatible and safe for use in my printer indeed?

Many thanks in advance!

Hello @dandreye ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Here are the specifications for your printer, see below Toner Cartridges for Europe HP 131 A Yellow.

Only this yellow cartridge is available for your country: CF212A .

I recommend that you print out the Supplies Status Report.

If this yellow toner cartridge causes problems, then this cartridge should be claimed (warranty).

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Andr-1611,

Thanks for your reply. I do understand that HP 131A (CF210A-CF213A) are the ones recommended for my printer. Can I still install any of those in my list above w/o the risk of causing my printer any problems? They all look exact same in the pictures - what exactly makes them different if at all? (at least different enough to have different product IDs)

Thanks in advance!

Hi @dandreye,

No, the specifications are clear here.

You are of course free to use other cartridges if the seller offers these cartridges for your printer.

But then problems can occur. For example, the print image is poor or the toner quality (refill) is poor and the printer can even be damaged.

Please read this information here (How Toner is Used).

The printer and the toner cartridges together form a unit!

Kind Regards
Andr-1611

Hi @Andr-1611,

Thanks for your reply. By now I understand that HP 131A series cartridges are the only ones prescribed by HP for use with my printer. I'd still like to understand the risks if I have to use any of the following genuine HP ones instead:

- HP 125A (CB540A-CB543A)
- HP 128A (CE320A-CE323A)
- Canon 731/731H
- Canon 716/716H

I feel the sellers call them suitable for my printer for a reason. May I ask what exactly prevents HP from calling them suitable too? How exactly are they different mechanically and/or electrically from HP 131A ones?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @dandreye,

please try here: https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/offer.aspx?p=contact-hp-store

I only use HP and have no experience with other cartridges.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
