Hello

I have a HP 2700 printer, I recently bought a new 305 compatible cartridge from tesco.

I am getting a message to say non-hp circuitry detected and it is blocking me from printing.

Apparently there is some kind of feature that called dynamic security which prevents the use of any cartridge that is not a HP orignial cartridge.  How can I disable this dynamic security feature?

Hi @Adlangfo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP's Dynamic Security feature is designed to block non-HP cartridges that do not contain HP's proprietary chip or circuitry. Unfortunately, there isn't an official way to disable this feature since it is embedded into the printer's firmware. However, there are some workarounds you can try to continue using third-party or compatible cartridges.

Here are a few options to consider.

Use Original HP Cartridges

This is the most straightforward solution, as Dynamic Security is only enforced for non-original cartridges. Switching to genuine HP 305 cartridges will resolve the issue.

Check for Firmware Updates

Sometimes, firmware updates re-enable Dynamic Security after it was disabled in an older version. However, in other cases, using an older firmware version can remove this restriction. You can:

  • Visit HP’s support website for your printer and look for a firmware downgrade if available.
  • Avoid updating firmware in the future, as newer versions may reintroduce Dynamic Security.

Steps to check/update firmware:

  • Go to the HP Support website for your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware (or an older version if available).
  • Check if your compatible cartridge works.

Reset the Printer

In some cases, resetting the printer to factory settings can bypass the Dynamic Security temporarily. To reset your printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cable for at least 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and see if the message persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi I have already tried those options.

Why is HP blocking compatible cartridges?

Shouldn't I have the freedom to purchase cartridges other then the HP ones?

My local store doesn't sell HP ones

Nothing that you have suggested is a solution for this problem?

So should I just throw away a perfectly good printer and start again with a different vendor who doesn't engage in these kind of behaviours ?  This is not a customer friendly security solution, this clearly an attempt by HP to force consumers to buy HP ink only, which I would have done if it was available in the store.  Sadly I had an emergency to print something imagine my disappointment to learn that HP has under the guise of a security firmware update manipulated MY printer to prevent it from accepting the cartridge.  Should I just throw this perfectly good printer away? Are you actually saying that HP cares about profit from an ink cartridge that much they are willing to burn up any good will with customers. Dynamic Security is a complete con.  And I will never buy another HP product again
