HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One

Has anyone had the issue with the HP 32XL not working with the HP 7301? It shows the spot is almost empty but nothing will leave the bottle. It also looks like there is condensation in with the existing black ink. Unless its not supposed to fill to the top? The bottle does show the ink is at the second line but the amount of ink on the screen has not changed. It shows the same level it was before. INK 3.pngINK 2.jpg

Hi @Championvilla,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing issues with the HP 32XL ink bottle not properly filling your HP 7301 printer, there are several potential causes and solutions to consider:

1. Proper Insertion and Use of the Ink Bottle

  • Ensure Correct Positioning: Double-check that the ink bottle is correctly positioned over the ink tank's filling port.
  • Ventilation and Flow: Make sure the bottle is vented properly. Some ink bottles have a vent that needs to be opened to allow the ink to flow smoothly.

2. Condensation Issue

  • Condensation Inside Ink Tank: If there is condensation inside the tank, it might interfere with the ink flow. Condensation can occur due to temperature changes.
    • Remove Condensation: If possible, carefully wipe any visible condensation inside the tank with a lint-free cloth or allow the printer to sit in a stable temperature environment to let the condensation evaporate.

3. Check the Ink Bottle and Tank Compatibility

  • Compatibility Check: Ensure that the HP 32XL ink bottle is compatible with the HP 7301 printer model. Sometimes, different printers may require specific ink formulations.
  • Genuine HP Products: Verify that you are using genuine HP ink products, as third-party or counterfeit inks may cause issues.

4. Ink Tank Levels

  • Visible Ink Levels: The ink bottle might not fill the tank to the very top, which is normal. It typically fills to a designated line indicated on the tank.
  • Ink Monitoring System: If the printer’s display does not show the updated ink level after filling, it might be a software or sensor issue.

5. Printer Firmware and Software

  • Update Firmware: Make sure your printer firmware is up to date, as updates can fix bugs related to ink level detection.
    • Check the HP support website for the latest firmware for your printer model.
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to see if it correctly recognizes the new ink levels.
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Perform a Printhead Cleaning

  • Cleaning Cycle: Run a printhead cleaning cycle from the printer's maintenance menu to ensure that the printhead is not clogged, which can sometimes be mistaken for an ink supply issue.

7. Contact HP Support

  • Professional Assistance: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact HP customer support. There might be a hardware issue with the ink tank or sensor that requires professional attention.

Detailed Steps for Refilling:

  1. Prepare the Ink Bottle: Shake the ink bottle gently before opening it.
  2. Open the Ink Tank Cap: Open the cap for the black ink tank on your HP 7301 printer.
  3. Insert the Ink Bottle: Align the nozzle of the HP 32XL bottle with the filling port and press down gently.
  4. Fill the Tank: Allow the ink to flow into the tank. It should stop automatically once it reaches the designated fill line.
  5. Monitor the Level: Ensure the ink tank level is updated on the printer’s display. If not, perform a printer reset or check for firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
