I just got this printer and for the life of me i can't find where the paper handing or select tray 2 as default is.

When i print it errors out as there is no paper in Tray 1 but i have it in tray 2 so i am puzzled why it can just go to tray 2. I can't seem to make it skip Tray 1 and print out of tray 2

  1. I would like to make Tray 2 as Default
  2. Tray 1 to be disabled

I have looked at the other posts and none of the provide the steps where i can find how to default to tray 2. Not on the HP Smart app nor the control panel on the printer.

Can someone please help 🙂 Thks!

@tigshugs, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Set Tray 1 as "Not Installed" in Printer Settings

By configuring Tray 1 as "Not Installed" in the printer's driver settings, you can force the printer to use Tray 2 by default. Here's how:

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.

Go to the Device Settings tab.

Find Tray 1 and set it to Not Installed.

Click Apply and then OK.

Use the Web Interface for Advanced Settings

If your printer is connected to a network, you can access its web interface to adjust advanced settings:

Find the printer's IP address.

Enter the IP address into a web browser to access the printer's web interface.

Navigate to Settings > Tray Behavior.

Set Use Requested Tray to First and Manually Feed Prompt to Unless Loaded.

Click Apply to save changes.

These settings can help the printer automatically switch to another tray when the current one is empty

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
