I printed test pages just fine, but anytime I try to print from anywhere else (e.g., Word, Wordpad) nothing but blank pages. However, the printer "sounds" like it's putting ink on the paper, but the page comes out blank. I tried the following:
1. Restarted computer and printer, several times.
2. Unplugged printer from surge protector and replugged into wall socket.
3. Unplugged USB cord and replugged.
4. Uninstalled and reinstalled (software).
5. Removed and reinstalled ink cartridges, as well as replacing ink cartridges.
6. Did a "power drain".
7. Updated drivers.
8. Updated firmware.
9. Used HP Doctor.
10. Used HP Virtual Assistant.
11. Used HP Troubleshoot.
12. Checked System Diagnostics (all good).
NOTHING has worked. I have Windows 10 and the printer is about 3 years old (and yes, out of warranty). I ordered a new printer but it doesn't arrive until next week and I NEED this printer to work until then. PLEASE HELP!!

Hi @BooksAreLife,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried an extensive list of troubleshooting steps for your HP DeskJet 3772 All-in-One Printer. Since the test page prints successfully but regular documents come out blank, it indicates that the printer itself is functioning, but there might be an issue with the way documents are being sent to the printer. Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Print Settings
- When printing from Word or other applications, ensure that the correct printer is selected and that no unusual settings (like "Print in Grayscale") are enabled.
- Also, check the "Print Preview" to see if the document appears as expected.
Change Printer Driver Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP 3772 and select Printer Properties.
- Click on the Advanced tab and change the driver to "HP Universal Print Driver" if available.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Use a Different Application
- Try printing from a different application, such as Adobe Reader or Notepad, to see if the problem persists.
Check for Paper Type Settings
- In the printer properties, check the Paper/Quality tab and ensure the correct paper type is selected. Sometimes, using the wrong paper type can cause issues.
Reset the Printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
Clear Print Queue
- Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your HP printer, and select See what's printing.
- If there are any documents in the queue, cancel them and try printing again.
Try Printing in Safe Mode
- Boot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking and try printing a document. This can help identify if a third-party application or driver is causing the issue.

Check Windows Update
- Ensure your Windows 10 is fully updated. Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Again
- Run the tool once more to see if it identifies any additional issues now that you’ve tried more troubleshooting.
Check for Firmware Updates Again
- Visit the HP support site to see if there are any new firmware updates released for your printer model since your last check.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
