@Steve01251, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Incompatible Cartridge Issue on HP OfficeJet 3830 Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer is indicating that an HP cartridge is incompatible, even though there is ink left, follow these steps to try to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you are using a compatible ink cartridge for your region. For the HP OfficeJet 3830, the compatible cartridges are:

  • North America, Asia Pacific (excluding China, India, and Indonesia): HP 63 Black, HP 63XL Black, HP 63 Tri-color, HP 63XL Tri-color
  • Western Europe: HP 302 Black, HP 302XL Black, HP 302 Tri-color, HP 302XL Tri-color
  • Africa, CIS, Latin America, and Middle East: HP 123 Black, HP 123XL Black, HP 123 Tri-color, HP 123XL Tri-color
  • China, India, and Indonesia: HP 803 Black, HP 803XL Black, HP 803 Tri-color, HP 803XL Tri-color

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about a minute.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge:

  • Open the exterior door and then the ink cartridge access door.
  • Lightly press down on the ink cartridge to release it, then pull it out of its slot.
  • Remove any protective tape from the new ink cartridge if applicable.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridge into its slot, making sure the cartridges are inserted in the correct slots:
    • Tri-color cartridge goes in the slot on the left.
    • Black ink cartridge goes in the slot on the right.
  • Push the ink cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door and the exterior door.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no obstructions or debris preventing proper contact between the cartridge and the printer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
