HP 4650dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP 4650dn won't print and shows error code 51.21, and also makes a squealing noise.  Manual says to turn off and back on but that didn't solve the issue.

That high pitch squeaking noise is coming out from the laser, and 51. xx is a laser error.

The printer has 4 lasers one for each colour and they are now starting to fail ( probably will fail one by one). It's possible to remove the laser and oil a laser mirror motor that will probably fix the issue, it's a complicated job.

Valsimot, Thanks for the info. I've ordered the laser and found step by step instructions for installing it.  You're correct, it's quite a complicated job.  You basically have to disassemble the printer to replace it.  It's good to know I may be able to oil the motor.  Once I have one in hand I can look it over and figure out how to oil it, then I'll have a spare if/when another one fails.

Take note that lasers are failing one by one, if you replace one that doesn't mean the other 3 are working properly or will work properly for a longer period.

Thanks for the heads up.  Hopefully I can lubricate the one I pull out and then have a spare to use for the next one that fails.  It's been a great printer and I've certainly gotten my monies worth out of it. I've considered selling this beast anyway, and it may be time to do so.  I have it for home use and can't justify a lot of expense in keeping it operational.
