My printer prints slowwwww. I have uninstalled it and then reinstall. It will work for a bit and then slows down again. There are no error codes. I have unplugged it and downloaded all the current drivers. I still end up with the same outcome...

Hi @autismteacher,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 5500 printer is consistently printing slowly despite reinstalling drivers and performing other troubleshooting steps, there are several things you can check and try to address the issue. Here are some suggestions.

Check Print Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your computer and make sure there are no pending print jobs. If there are, try canceling or removing them.

Connection Issues:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the computer properly. If it's a network printer, check the network connection.
  • Try using a different USB port or network cable if applicable.

Printer Settings:

  • Open the printer properties on your computer and check if there are any settings related to print speed. Adjust the settings if necessary.
  • Make sure that the printer is not set to high-quality printing, as this can significantly slow down the printing process.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP 5500 printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve performance issues.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Make sure that there are no other programs or processes running on your computer that might be consuming a significant amount of system resources. Close unnecessary applications.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page directly from the printer's control panel to see if the issue is specific to computer communication. This will help determine if the problem is with the printer itself or the connection.

Paper Type and Size:

  • Ensure that the paper type and size settings on the printer and in your print job match. Mismatched settings can cause the printer to process the print job more slowly.

Printer Memory:

  • Check if the printer has sufficient memory for the type of document you are trying to print. Large and complex documents may require more printer memory.

Temporarily Disable Security Software:

  • Temporarily disable any security software (firewall or antivirus) on your computer to see if it has any impact on printing speed. Sometimes, security software can interfere with the printing process.

By systematically checking these aspects, you should be able to identify and address the cause of the slow printing issue with your HP 5500 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
