HP 5520 photosmart printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My HP 5520 photosmart printer ink carriage is jammed to the right.  I replaced the black ink cartridge and when I closed the lid there was a bit of a grinding sound as the carriage moved to the right.  I then got a message "To avoid damage, use on button to turn off the printer".  I have tried various power off/power disconnect/reset options to no avail.  The carriage will not move even with moderate pressure.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@afs3-afs3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the print carriage is stuck. Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - 'Carriage Jam' or 'E3' Error Displays

Also, check if there are any jams inside the printer. Refer to the steps from - A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays

If the error persists, I'm afraid this is a hardware failure. Please reach out to HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
