Hi @JeanH45,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer is not recognizing the brand-new HP 63XL black ink cartridge, despite troubleshooting steps, here are some additional solutions to try:

1. Check the Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure the black cartridge is indeed an HP 63XL cartridge and is compatible with the OfficeJet 4655. Double-check the packaging and label on the cartridge.

2. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the black cartridge and inspect the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Gently clean the cartridge contacts and the printer’s cartridge slot with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or rubbing alcohol.
  • Let everything dry before reinstalling the cartridge.

3. Perform a Printer Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 10 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and power it on.
  • Reinstall the black ink cartridge and check if the issue persists.

4. Verify Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Outdated printer firmware might cause recognition issues with newer cartridges.
  • Check if your printer firmware is up-to-date using the HP Smart app or the HP website.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates.

5. Try Another Black Cartridge

  • The new cartridge could be defective. If possible, try installing another HP 63XL black cartridge to see if the issue persists.

6. Reset the Ink System

  • Remove both the black and color cartridges from the printer.
  • Turn the printer off and unplug it for 10 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and reinstall the cartridges one at a time, starting with the black cartridge.
