HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Purchased a brand new black 64XL ink cartridge today. It is not communicating properly with my printer. I have followed all troubleshooting steps including cleaning contact leads on cartridge/printer with lightly damp water and letting it dry, resetting printer, etc. and nothing is working. Printer is completely updated and color cartridge reads just fine. Requesting a new black ink cartridge that can work please-- this ink was not cheap and it doesn't work fresh out of the box!

@CLo19, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Cartridge not communicating correctly with printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP 64XL black ink cartridge is not communicating correctly with your printer despite performing all troubleshooting steps, you may be eligible for a replacement cartridge. Here are the detailed steps to resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve Cartridge Errors

Check for Tape and Clean the Cartridge

  • Ensure there is no protective tape left on the cartridge contacts.
  • Clean the contacts on the cartridges and in the carriage with a lightly damp cloth using distilled water.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
