Hi @dmcksa,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5275 All-in-One Printer typically uses HP 653 cartridges, not HP 65 cartridges. While the HP 65 cartridges might physically fit, they are region-specific and may not be compatible depending on your printer's regional settings.
Here are some steps to resolve the issue:
1. Verify Regional Compatibility (May I know if you have changed the region)
- Check if your printer's region matches the region of the cartridges.
- The HP 65 cartridges are generally for the North American market, whereas the HP 653 cartridges are for other regions.
2. Check Cartridge Packaging
- Confirm the region printed on the cartridge packaging matches the region of your printer.
- If your printer is configured for a different region, it will not accept the HP 65 cartridges.
3. Regional Reset
- If you’ve recently moved or purchased the cartridges in a different region, you may need to perform a regionalization reset on your printer.
Please let me know I will help you with the regionalization reset
4. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure the printer firmware is up to date:
- Download the latest firmware from the HP Software & Driver Downloads.
- Install it on your printer and retry the cartridges.
5. Verify Cartridge Authenticity
- Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP products. Counterfeit cartridges can cause compatibility errors.
- Check the hologram or security label on the packaging to confirm authenticity.
6. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes.
- Reinstall the cartridges and power the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. We recently moved from another region back to the US. So we will need to do a regional reset. Please can you let me know how we go about that. As I said, the QR code etc suggests the 65 will work. If you could advise me how to do reset then we should be good to go.

Hi @dmcksa,
Thank you for your reply
I'd like to help!
I understand you moved and the printer is not accepting the new region cartridges.
We need to perform a regional reset on the printer to resolve this issue.
The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instructions to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
To access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Support Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
