Hi @Printmast,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When encountering a "missing or failed printhead" error on your HP printer, especially after switching from generic cartridges to genuine HP cartridges, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Steps to Resolve "Missing or Failed Printhead" Error:
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear temporary errors.
Verify Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the genuine HP cartridges are installed correctly and securely in their respective slots. Check that they are seated properly and that all protective tapes or covers have been removed from the cartridges.
Clean the Printhead:
- If possible, use your printer's built-in printhead cleaning function. This can often resolve printhead issues caused by dried ink or debris.
- Navigate to your printer's menu or settings on the control panel to find the printhead cleaning option.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for and install any available firmware updates for your HP printer model. Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs or issues related to printhead detection and performance.
Inspect the Printhead Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Gently remove the printhead and inspect the contacts (metal contacts on the printhead and inside the printer). Clean them carefully with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, if necessary.
- Reinsert the printhead securely back into the printer.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Perform a hard reset on your printer. This involves disconnecting the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
