HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One

My  2-year-old HP7005 printer is showing no diagnostic issues, prints test page perfectly, but any other print is incorrect in colour (blacks are purple, other colours are dull).

Ink tanks are all full, and printer head clean and alignment are up to date.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi @_Renner_ ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One printer. It prints test pages correctly but produces incorrect colors during regular printing,

here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check the Print Settings

  • Open the print dialog box on your computer when printing a document.
  • Ensure that the color mode is set to Color and not Grayscale or Black & White.
  • Verify that the paper type selected matches the paper you're using (e.g., plain paper, photo paper).

2. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Ensure that you have the latest driver and software installed. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Uninstall the current driver:
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program and remove the printer driver.
    • On macOS: Use the HP Uninstaller app if available.
  • Reinstall the printer using the latest software.

3. Check the Ink Levels in the Printer Software

  • Even if the ink tanks are physically full, there may be an issue with the printer recognizing the ink levels correctly.
  • Open the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel and check the ink levels displayed.
  • If a level seems inaccurate, try gently agitating the ink tanks and cleaning the ink nozzles (if applicable).

4. Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • Access the printer's maintenance menu via the control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Perform a Printhead Cleaning. Run this cycle up to three times if necessary.
  • Follow this with a Printhead Alignment to ensure proper calibration.

5. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause printing issues.
  • Update the printer firmware via the HP Smart app or the printer's built-in menu.

6. Test with Different Documents and Applications

  • Sometimes, the issue might be with the document or application you're using to print.
  • Try printing from a different application or a different type of file (e.g., Word document, PDF, or image).

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a soft reset:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and powering it on.
  • Retry printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
