@Steve_49, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP ENVY 7155 printer is unable to communicate with the new color ink cartridge, it’s likely the issue stems from compatibility, proper installation, or the cartridge being a non-genuine HP product. Here are some recommended steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure that the cartridge you purchased is compatible with the HP ENVY 7155 printer. Here's the relevant information on compatible cartridges from HP:

  • North America and Asia Pacific (excluding China, India, and Indonesia):
    • 65 Black, 65XL Black
    • 65 Tri-color, 65XL Tri-color

2. Install the Cartridge Properly

Improper installation can lead to communication errors. Here’s how you can correctly install your ink cartridges:

  1. Make sure paper is loaded into the input tray, and then turn on the printer.
  2. Use the handles on the sides of the printer to lift the cartridge access lid until it locks into place.
  3. Open the latch, and then pull the cartridge up and out of the slot.
  4. Carefully remove the new cartridge from its package and hold it by the black plastic sides only.
  5. Remove the protective tape from the cartridge, avoiding touching the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.
  6. Insert the cartridge into its designated color-coded slot, ensuring it is properly seated in the carriage, and then close the latch.
  7. Close the cartridge access lid.
  8. If an alignment page prints, follow the instructions on the page to align the cartridges and complete the installation.

Here's a visual guide for these steps:

  • Opening the lid to access the cartridges
  • Removing the ink cartridges from the carriage
  • Removing the tape from the ink cartridge

3. Turn the Printer Off and On

Sometimes simply turning the printer off and back on can resolve communication issues.

4. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink cartridges. Non-genuine cartridges can sometimes cause issues with communication and printing. If possible, try using a genuine HP ink cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
