Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I've had my Printer for a few months now and its sometimes not printing properly when printing from Windows 11 or Android phones. The issue is one of the following:

  1. I press print and it starts printing okay, it prints the first page ok, half the 2nd page is not printed and the third page is just a white bit of paper, when there should be text  on it.
  2. I press print and every so often rows of text isn't printing or is partially printed.
  3. I press print and everything doesn't print apart from an image of a signature on my PDF file.

I don't know what to do, I have pressed the "i" button on the printer and it prints the Printer Information report perfectly every time. I don't think its a print head issue, I just don't think all the data is being printed.

I just tried printing a photo from Google Photos that should look like this:

But it turned out like this:

PXL_20250316_134452088.jpg

A few more images to look at below, first one only printed certain parts of the page, the print preview showed everything, so  its missing black text that should be inside the boxes.

PXL_20250316_133611421.jpg

The one below is a PDF, printed from Chrome and then again via Adobe, had the same issue. It should show loads of black text with a signature at the bottom, for some reason its just printed out the signature and nothing esle, the print preview showed a full page of text with the signature at the bottom.

PXL_20250316_133601524.jpg

The image below, i was the previous page to the image above. You can see its not printing all the text correctly.

PXL_20250316_133629531.jpg

Would this be just an issue with the printed not receiving all the data?

Could this be a router issue?

Thanks in advance.

Michael

@mcyates, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is intermittently failing to receive or correctly process the full print data. Here are some possible causes and troubleshooting steps:

Possible Causes:

Connection Issues:

  • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, an unstable network might cause incomplete data transfer.
  • If it's via USB, a faulty cable or port might be the issue.

Driver or Software Issues:

  • Corrupt or outdated printer drivers can cause partial prints.
  • Incorrect print settings in Windows or the printing app might be affecting output.

Spooler or Processing Issues:

  • The Windows Print Spooler might be failing to send all data correctly.
  • The printer's internal memory might be overwhelmed with multiple or complex print jobs.

PDF Rendering Issues:

  • Some PDFs may not print correctly due to how they are processed. Printing as an image instead of text may help.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Test Connectivity

  • If using Wi-Fi, try switching to a USB connection and test print.
  • If using Wi-Fi, restart the router and connect the printer again.
  • Try printing from a different device (Windows 11, Android, or another PC) to isolate the issue.

Update/Reinstall Drivers

  • Go to HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Uninstall the current driver via Control Panel → Devices & Printers.
  • Restart your PC and reinstall the latest driver.

Reset Print Spooler

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
  3. Try printing again.

Test Different Printing Methods

  • Print the PDF using "Print as Image" (Adobe Reader → Print → Advanced → "Print As Image").
  • Try printing from a different browser if printing from Chrome.
  • Convert the file to another format (e.g., from PDF to Word) and test print.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  • It will detect and fix connection, driver, and spooler issues.

Test Printer Hardware

  • Since the Printer Information Report prints fine, the hardware is likely OK.
  • Try printing a different PDF or document that hasn't failed before.

Check Router Settings

  • If on Wi-Fi, try assigning a static IP to your printer via the router settings.
  • Reduce interference by placing the printer near the router.
  • Test printing with a direct USB connection to confirm if Wi-Fi is the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Max3Aj,

Thank you very much for your reply. I've gone though everything you have suggested below (Apart from using a printer USB cable, as i'll have to buy one, but i'll be doing that to rule stuff out) and its still not printing correctly.

Connection Issues:

  • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, an unstable network might cause incomplete data transfer.
  • If it's via USB, a faulty cable or port might be the issue. (Still not tested cable)

My Wifi is stable, i've tested it and looked at the router which is showing the printer have 5 bars of strength. So I can definitely rule out wifi issues from the router, i've also reset the router to factory default to see if that would help but it hasn't.

Driver or Software Issues:

  • Corrupt or outdated printer drivers can cause partial prints.
  • Incorrect print settings in Windows or the printing app might be affecting output.

I have ran the HP Print and Scan doctor and everything was okay according to that app, all green ticks. My print test didn't look right though, see images below:

Spooler or Processing Issues:

  • The Windows Print Spooler might be failing to send all data correctly.
  • The printer's internal memory might be overwhelmed with multiple or complex print jobs.

How do I check the print Spooler? These are basic documents i'm printing, i've tried printing webpages from Chrome and they just look rubbish, see image below of the daily mail. It printed the page in reverse and the only page that looked correct was the first one, after that they looked bad.

PXL_20250321_133505795.jpg

PDF Rendering Issues:

  • Some PDFs may not print correctly due to how they are processed. Printing as an image instead of text may help.

PDFs are hit an miss, I just printed one and it was two pages and it looks not too bad. But my wife who uses the printer for University and hates it at the moment, she prints larger documents 10+ pages and she can't make out most of the prints, so we are wasting paper and ink.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Test Connectivity

  • If using Wi-Fi, try switching to a USB connection and test print.
I still need to buy a cable and test the print outs from that.
  • If using Wi-Fi, restart the router and connect the printer again.
Done this, still have the same issue.
  • Try printing from a different device (Windows 11, Android, or another PC) to isolate the issue.
I've printed from my laptop, my wifes laptop, her Samsung Galaxy Phone and my Google Pixel 7 Pro phone and the issue is on all of them.

Update/Reinstall Drivers

  • Go to HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Uninstall the current driver via Control Panel → Devices & Printers.
  • Restart your PC and reinstall the latest driver.
I have tried all of the above and the printer still prints incorrectly.

Reset Print Spooler

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
  3. Try printing again.
Tried this ang again, have the same issue.

Not carried this out at the moment.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  • It will detect and fix connection, driver, and spooler issues.
Done this but still had same issues.

Reset router and still have the issue!

I have just printed the same PDF document off (See image Below)

The top one was selecting: HPF709EA (HP Smart Tank 7300 series)

The bottom one was using: HP Smart Printing (HP Smart Tank 7300 Series [F709EA]

 PXL_20250321_134614442.jpg

My question is, why is there TWO options for the same printer?

I've just printed the daily mail website again using HPF709EA (HP Smart Tank 7300 series)  and there are lines on that too. I did do a head clean and alignment with the app but still have the issues with printing.

Could I just have a defective Printer? How would I exchange this if thats the case?

Thank you for your response @mcyates

Based on your issue and the test prints you’ve uploaded, here’s a breakdown of possible causes and troubleshooting steps:

Multiple Printer Drivers Installed (HPF709EA vs. HP Smart Printing)

The presence of two different printer options suggests that Windows may have installed an additional driver automatically, potentially causing conflicts.

Fix:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and check if both drivers are listed.
  • Right-click on the extra printer (likely “HP Smart Printing”) and Remove Device.
  • Uninstall any existing HP drivers using HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Download and reinstall the latest driver from the official HP website.
  • Restart your PC and try printing again.

Print Quality Issues (Lines, Missing Text, Blank Prints)

Your test prints suggest one or more of the following:

  • Clogged printhead.
  • Printhead alignment issue.
  • Firmware or driver corruption.

Fix:

  • Run a printhead cleaning (you may need to do this 2-3 times).
  • Perform printhead alignment again and check for improvement.
  • Try printing in grayscale or monochrome mode to see if black ink is affected.
  • Update firmware via HP Smart App.

Connection Issues Despite Strong Wi-Fi

Even though your Wi-Fi signal strength is good, data loss over Wi-Fi can still happen, leading to incomplete prints.

Fix:

  • Try a USB connection (this will rule out Wi-Fi interference). You mentioned you don’t have a cable, but testing with one would be crucial.
  • If a USB connection prints correctly, then the issue is network-related.
  • Try changing the printer’s Wi-Fi channel on your router settings.
  • Disable IPv6 in your printer’s network settings.
  • Set a static IP for the printer via your router.

Printing a Blank Windows Test Page

A completely blank Windows Test Page usually means:

  • Driver corruption → Try reinstalling the driver.
  • Ink issue → Print a test page from the HP Printer's Control Panel (not from the PC).
  • Communication error → Test via USB

And we understand that are out of black ink and in touch with the support. Please do keep us posted.

I hope this helps!
