Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've already gone through all the usual troubleshooting steps and are down to cleaning or replacing the printhead, here’s what I suggest:
1. Deep Clean the Printhead
Since the Photosmart 7520 has a built-in, non-removable printhead, you’ll need to clean it manually:
Use the printer’s built-in cleaning tool:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead and run multiple cleaning cycles if necessary.
- Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report to check if black ink improves.
Manual Cleaning (if automated cleaning fails):
- Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol (91%+ purity) to gently wipe the printhead's ink nozzles.
- Let it dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
- Run another printhead cleaning cycle.
2. Try a Different Cartridge
Sometimes a bad ink cartridge (even if new) can cause this. Try:
- A brand-new, genuine HP 564XL black cartridge.
- Shaking the cartridge slightly to mix the ink.
- Checking for proper venting—ensure the small vent hole on top of the cartridge is open and not clogged.
3. Hard Reset
- Remove the power cord while the printer is on.
- Wait 2-3 minutes, then reconnect and turn it on.
- This can help reset internal ink system errors.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
