Running MAC sequoia 15.4.1
I need a downgrade link to the 7740 firmware so that i can start to use my printer again!
Its out of warrenty but now suddenly i am unable to use my own printer inks.
There are loads of work arounds online but none seem to be compatible with MAC.
I am now left unable to print anything at all, i have tried everything. It printed 2 pages then stopped and now i'm left to go to an event with now documents.
I own this machine i do not lease it so i should be able to put whatever cartridges i please in it.

@zo2013, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP 7740!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're experiencing with your HP 7740 printer. Unfortunately, HP does not provide official links to downgrade printer firmware, as firmware updates often include essential security enhancements and compatibility improvements. Using non-HP cartridges or chips might trigger the printer to throw errors if the firmware does not recognize them.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@zo2013, I completely understand your frustration — especially when you're in a rush and your printer lets you down.
You're right — it's your printer, and you should have more flexibility. However, the recent firmware updates include security features that block non-HP chips to ensure quality and prevent potential damage. But, HP doesn’t offer official firmware downgrades, and we can’t guarantee the safety or compatibility of third-party tools, especially on macOS.
For now, to get you up and printing again, the only fully supported route is using genuine HP cartridges. I know this might not be ideal, but it’s currently the most reliable way to get your printer working without further hiccups.

I have successfully been using non hp cartridges for years. What you are writing is not a solution, unless of course you are offering to send me HP cartridges to replace the ones I have already bought at a normal price that people can actually afford?
if not, again you are not offering a solution here as I now have large, initially expensive printer that is sat there and cannot be used because HP are greedy.
please come back to me with an actual solution to get my printer working or do not waste my time responding

@zo2013, HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. HP recommends using genuine HP ink or toner supplies available from the HP Store. Go to HP Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud Program for more information on using authentic HP cartridges.
If the error displays with genuine HP cartridges, select No, OK, or Continue. If the print job completes, the issue is resolved but you might need to dismiss the message every time you print until the cartridges are depleted. Otherwise continue with these steps to resolve the issue.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
Replace the problem cartridge
Installing a new cartridge usually resolves cartridge errors.
Obtain a replacement cartridge.
Printer is enrolled in Instant Ink. Replacement cartridges are part of your subscription. If you have another Instant Ink cartridge on hand, install it. Otherwise, contact HP Instant Ink support for a new cartridge.
Printer is NOT enrolled in Instant Ink. Go to the HP Store or a local retailer to find and purchase compatible supplies. HP recommends genuine HP cartridges.
Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message, and then insert the new cartridge into the slot.
Repeat these steps to replace any other cartridges indicated in the error message.
Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area, and then follow any instructions to align the printer.
If our solution hit the spot, please click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an incredible day ahead!

I don't want HP to guarantee the quality or reliability of my cartridges. I just want to be able to use them in my printer.
Maybe if HP didn't rob people blind for the price of the ink they might get more people buying from them.
I have been successfully printing with my own brand of cartridges for years. I didn't need HP to guarantee anything.
I just want to use the piece of equipment i have purchased in full.
So, either post a response that will actually get me back printing without lining your pockets or do not bother replying.
Thanks
