HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Officejet HP Printer 7740 is online and does positively respond to a print order and displays a message "Printing" but nothing is actually being printed by the machine.  When a copy is requested, again a message "Copying" is displayed but no copy is actually made.  No error messages or "out of ink or paper" messages are displayed or have been displayed.  This condition happened suddenly without any accompanying issues.  Have tried to re-load the print driver but that has not helped .  Coinsidently, I did receive a new Microsoft update which was installed overnight on Thursday/Friday and I received an HP Support Alert email yes email from HP Friday telling me about a "Routine Diagnostic Tool Update called HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.

Has anyone experienced anyting like this recently and if so, what needs to be done to resolve the printer issue?

Hi @William999

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand your unable to print or copy

To assist  better-

1) Does the copy print out the same way?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?

3) Does the printer print blank pages or does the printer not respond?

While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  3. Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.

A Print Quality Diagnostic Page prints.

Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

You may also refer to this document with steps to fix the " Print Quality Issues" issue applicable for your printer -  Print Quality Issues

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
