HP 8600 Plus is showing problem with ink system after new HP ink was installed.  After I unplugged waited a few minutes and pluged it back in and then tryed to run the Dianostics the HP Printer Assistance tool it's showing the following:

951 Magenta, 951 Cyan

Cartridges listed above are damaged or have failed

Remove them and replace with new cartridges

and the picture of the ink cartridges are empty although I just installed all 4 new HP cartridges

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Hi @k123hall,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer is having issues recognizing the newly installed genuine HP ink cartridges, which can indeed be frustrating. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the problem:

1. Double-check the Cartridges

  • Ensure Compatibility: Verify that the cartridges are the correct model for your printer. The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus typically uses HP 950 (Black), HP 951 (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow).
  • Inspect for Damage: Look at the cartridges and the cartridge area inside the printer for any noticeable damage or obstructions.

2. Reinstall the Cartridges

  • Remove and Check: Take out the indicated cartridges (Magenta and Cyan in your case), check them for plastic tape or covers that might not have been removed.
  • Clean Contacts: Gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert: Carefully reinsert the cartridges into their respective slots until they click into place.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn Off and Unplug: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 1 minute.
  • Reconnect and Power On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can help clear error messages.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Sometimes issues can be resolved by updating the printer's firmware. You can check for updates through the HP Printer Assistant tool or directly on the HP website under your printer model’s support page.

5. Test the Printer

  • Print a Status Report: Use the printer's control panel to print a printer status report. This can help verify if the printer recognizes the cartridges now.
  • Try Other Functions: Try copying a document as a test to see if the error persists outside of printing from a computer6

6. Consider Cartridge Replacement

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
