HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

I got a message to replace the black cartridge which was depleted. I replaced it with a genuine HP 952XL cartridge (same as what I was using and recommended cartridge for this printer. Printer acknowledges that it's a genuine HP cartridge but then produces the message that it's an older generation cartridge that does not work in this printer. Frustrating because it came in the same package as the depleted one I just removed !   To check the cartridge, I inserted it into a separate HP8720 printer we have which was purchased at the same time and the cartridge works fine there. Tried unplugging the problem  printer to reset but to no avail. Please advise.

If this is a genuine HP ink cartridge, I would need some information related to the ink cartridges and the printer which cannot be shared on a public post for security reasons.
