HP Recommended
Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 All-in-One Printer

Officejet Pro 8730

  1. As part of a firmware update HP added cartridge security.
  2. As part of that same firmware update apparently the “Full” factory reset function was removed so there is not an option to “reset” the printer to OEM including the original firmware version that “did not” include cartridge security. Only local settings like network or some config settings can be reset, not Firmware.
  3. It is well documented HP pulled older versions of the firmware for a customer to download themselves and thus accomplish removal of the cartridge security.
  4. My cartridges are in fact HP OEM but they are older cartridge sets that do not contain the newer manufacture chip sets with the security function. I have a stock of these legitimately purchased and at a premium expense and I need to be able to use them.
  5. The printer is not under warranty and there is no material impact or implication for HP regarding warranty however, as stated, the cartridges are in fact OME equipment.

Needed Solution:

I need either a firmware version that predates the cartridge security check feature or the original firmware package that shipped with the printer. How can I obtain the relevant firmware installation package?

The printer model is HP Officejet Pro 8730.

Thank you.
