I recently bought an HP 9130e. I have had issues with print quality from day one, it keeps getting blurred and smudged and I need to clean the print head to resolve it. It also takes forever to start printing, it almost seems like it is booting up every time I print. The ink also is being used up so quickly its crazy. The cyan cartridge has been used up in a month and i mainly print in black and white.

Hi @Dustinwl1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  understand how  it must feel to deal with blurred prints, slow startup, and high ink usage. We want to make sure your HP 9130e works smoothly for you.

Here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Printhead alignment: Run the alignment tool from your printer’s settings menu. Misalignment often causes blurred or smudged prints.
  2. Firmware update: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can cause slow startup and performance issues.
  3. Default to grayscale: In your print settings, select “Print in grayscale” or “Black ink only.” This prevents unnecessary use of color cartridges when printing black-and-white documents.
  4. Clean printhead: If you’re cleaning the printhead often, try running the “Deep Cleaning” option once. Frequent light cleanings can actually waste more ink.
  5. Power cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it for 2–3 minutes, then restart. This can help with the long startup delays.

If the issue persists after these steps, we may need to check whether the printer is running in Instant Ink mode or if there’s a hardware issue with the printhead.

I hope this helps.
