HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-in-One Printer

I installed a set of HP  952 XL cartridges yesterday which were rejected  because they were meant for an earlier version of the my  Officejet Pro All-in -One printer 8740.  I don't understand  why the message came up not do I understand why there would be different versions of the ink for the same printer. I never had a problem like this with the other two All-in One office-jet printer. that I have bought over the years. What recourse do I have as I bought the  cartridges from one of two dealers about 6 months ago. and no longer have the sales slip?

Also, update the firmware for your printer.
