I have an OfficeJet5740 that continues to show out of ink for both color & black & white cartridges. Replaced both cartridges with new hp cartdridges No. 62 and will not recognize. Did a re-set and ciontinues to show ink level at 0.
Not sure what to do. May need a new printer.

Hi @JGDog,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand how frustrating it can be when your HP OfficeJet 5740 and unrecognised HP 62 new cartridges, especially when they’re genuine HP supplies. We're here to help get this sorted out quickly.
1. Confirm Cartridge Type:
- Make sure both cartridges are HP 62 or HP 62XL and are genuine HP (not refilled or remanufactured).
- Check the packaging or cartridge for an HP logo and security seal.
2. Inspect the Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Gently remove both cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and in the printer.
- Allow to dry fully and reinstall the cartridges.
3. Hard Reset the Printer:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
- Unplug from the wall and wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.
4. Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit hp.com/drivers and enter OfficeJet 5740.
- Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
