The issue you're experiencing with the HP Color Laser MFP 178nw likely relates to the region-locking of toner cartridges. HP printers often restrict cartridge compatibility based on the region in which the printer was originally configured.
Incompatible Toner (117A): This typically occurs when the cartridge's region code does not match the printer's region setting. If the printer was configured for one region and the cartridge belongs to another, the printer may not accept it.
Region Change Request: Changing the region of an HP printer is possible but typically requires assistance from HP Support. It usually involves providing proof of purchase and the serial number. Since you're located on a ship and would prefer access to 118A toner from China, HP Support can guide you through the region change process officially.
I recommend contacting HP’s regional support team directly to request a region reset. Be sure to have your printer's serial number, purchase details, and the reason for the region change ready.
