Hi @JohnSpi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you installed are the correct ones for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975. Using genuine HP cartridges specific to this model is crucial.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Open the printer to access the cartridge area.
  • Ensure the printer is powered on, and wait until the printer carriage is idle.
  • Remove all cartridges and carefully reinstall each one, making sure they are properly seated. Listen for a click to ensure they are locked into place.

Inspect the Cartridges: Check for any visible damage or protective tape that may still be attached to the cartridges. Make sure there is no tape left covering any contacts or vents.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridges and use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and in the printer.
  • Ensure everything is dry before reinstalling.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about a minute before plugging it back in and powering it on.
  • This can sometimes clear error messages and restore the printer to a functioning state.

Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues with new cartridges.

Perform a Printer Hard Reset:

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and also unplug it from the wall.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Try Another Cartridge: If you have an extra set of cartridges, try installing them to determine if the issue is related to a faulty cartridge.

I hope this helps.
