Microsoft Windows 11

This is getting ridiculous, for the second time now after I've had to replace both colour and b/w cartridges, I have to remove the printer/ add the printer, just to get the printer back online and taking out the old and replacing with new ones.

Now I have messages that both cartridges are now so-called "incompatible" even though I bought it from Big W and it literally has HP written on both.

I removed/added the printer/ tried everything.

So tell me, what is wrong now?

I'm moving over to Canon as HP is the just puss

Hi @den_test,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer is repeatedly showing “cartridge incompatible” messages even with genuine HP cartridges, and you’ve already tried removing/re-adding the printer. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Cartridge Installation

Remove the cartridges and reinstall them firmly until they click into place.

Ensure all protective tape, seals, or clips are fully removed before installation.

Inspect Cartridge and Printer Contacts

Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the gold/copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Dirty or damaged contacts often prevent proper communication.

Confirm Cartridge Compatibility

Verify the cartridge numbers match exactly what your printer model requires.

Even genuine HP cartridges can appear incompatible if they’re for a different region or printer series.

Restart the Printer and Power Cycle

Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

This refreshes the printer’s detection system.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause genuine cartridges to be flagged as incompatible.

Update via the printer menu or HP Smart app to the latest version.

Test with Another New Cartridge (if available)

If possible, try a different genuine HP cartridge to rule out a defective batch.

Sometimes multiple cartridges from the same batch can have issues.

Inspect the Printhead (if applicable)

For all-in-one printers with removable printheads, ensure the printhead is seated correctly and the contacts are clean.

A failing printhead can trigger “incompatible cartridge” messages even with new HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.
