Microsoft Windows 11

My color laser printer is printing a shadow of the print job further down the page, with a pale yellow background on the whole page.  I have tried the solutions proposed on various other posts on the same question (I have cleaned the printer, used the trouble shooter, tried different paper, shaken the cartridges, looked for damage to cartridges and drum, tried different print settings, drained the power charge and plugged back into the wall, etc.).  I can see that when all of these options were tried, HP staff have offered another solution via private message.  Would someone please share that solution?

Thanks!

Hi @--Cindy--,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer that has shadow printing issue.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

Make a copy on the printer standalone and let me know if you have the same issue. (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware is working fine)

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hi, This did not work.  The copy I printed continued to have the same problem.  Please let me know what my next step should be.  Thanks!

Please note also that I am not certain that I correctly installed the driver.  The instructions at your link did not exactly match what I found in my computer and had to search to find what the document was referring to.  I downloaded and installed this: HP_Color_Laser_MFP_178_179_Full_Software_and_Drivers_1.20, but nothing seems to have changed.

Yes, I have tried a few times to make a copy on the printer standalone, but the problem continued.  There is no apparent difference in printing from my laptop and copying as a standalone.  Thanks in advance for advising me on next steps.
