Public printer at a library -- today our HP Color LaserJet M555 started printing color prints poorly. It isn't happening on black and white prints.
The color prints are coming out with sections that are darker than others. On a horizontal printed photo of a wall, the top of the wall is dark, with a middle section being slightly lighter, and the bottom section being the brightest. Each section is separated by an invisible line that runs the entire width of the paper. I've tried to upload a sample but the file keeps getting rejected.
I have tried running the cleaning page, as well as running full calibrations twice. I've taken out each toner and shaken them and reinstalled. One toner is at 10%, so I replaced it with a new one. None of this has worked.
Any ideas?

Hi @rspcld,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP Color LaserJet M555 is experiencing issues with color consistency. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Check Image Transfer Belt: Inspect the transfer belt for any debris or toner buildup. Cleaning it carefully can sometimes help.
Print Quality Diagnostics:
- Run a print quality diagnostic page to identify any specific colors causing issues.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure that the printer’s firmware is up to date, as updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
Re-seat the Transfer Unit:
- Remove and reinstall the image transfer unit to ensure it is seated properly.
Environmental Factors:
- Check if humidity or temperature fluctuations might be affecting the print quality.
Replace Low Toner Cartridges:
- If other toners are low (even above 10%), consider replacing them as well.
Paper Quality:
- Ensure you are using the correct paper type and quality settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
