@elsabiopr, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is printing pictures too light after a cartridge replacement, follow these steps to improve print quality:

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. You can verify the authenticity of your cartridges here.

Check Print Settings

Incorrect print settings can affect print quality. Adjust the settings to improve:

Change the print job settings (HP Smart app)

  1. Open the HP Smart app and click Print Documents or Print Photos.
  2. Select the file you want to print, then click Print or Print Preview.
  3. Change the settings from the Preview screen:
    • Select the correct paper size from the Paper or Paper Size menu.
    • Match the paper type in the Paper Type menu (Windows only).
    • Select Color, Print Quality, or Grayscale options.
    • Choose the highest quality or print quality setting available, such as Best or Professional.

Change the print job settings (Windows)

  1. Open the document or photo you want to print on your computer.
  2. Press Ctrl and P or click Print to open the print window, then open printer properties or settings.
  3. Adjust settings:
    • Change paper size and type to match the loaded paper.
    • Select the highest print quality option available.
    • Enable print in color for improved quality.

Cleaning Page

Print a fuser cleaning page to resolve any print quality issues. Follow these steps:

  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. Open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. Print Quality tools, then click Print Cleaning Page.

Inspect the Toner Cartridge

Check the toner cartridge for damage and ensure correct installation:

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Open the toner cartridge access door.
  3. Remove the toner cartridge and examine the memory chip and imaging drum for damage.
  4. Install the cartridge correctly, ensuring the color chip matches on the drawer.

Update Printer Firmware

Update the printer firmware using the control panel to ensure optimal performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support

Replace the Toner Cartridge

If issues persist, consider replacing the toner cartridge with a new genuine HP toner cartridge.
