Hi @Osky1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet Plus 4122 All-in-One Printer is not printing black ink, but prints in other colors, several issues could be causing this.
Here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Check Ink Levels
- Verify that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. You can do this via the HP Smart app or printer software on your PC.
2. Clean the Printhead
- A clogged printhead is a common cause of black ink not printing. You can use the printer's software to clean the printhead:
- Open the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.
- Go to Printer Maintenance and select Clean Printhead.
- Run the cleaning cycle, and if necessary, repeat it a few times.
3. Check Cartridge Installation
- Ensure the black ink cartridge is properly installed and not loose.
- Open the printer’s access door and remove the black ink cartridge.
- Reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place.
4. Use Genuine HP Cartridges
- Ensure you are using a genuine HP black ink cartridge. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about a minute and then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer back on and try printing again.
6. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer using the HP Smart app or the HP website.
7. Run Printer Diagnostic Tools
- HP provides tools to diagnose and fix printing issues.
- Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website, run the tool, and let it fix any detected issues.
8. Replace the Black Ink Cartridge
- If the above steps don’t work, try replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one, even if the current one seems to have ink left. There might be an issue with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
