HP DeskJet 2855e All-in-One Printer

I purchased printer and HP Ink cartridges (as described on the box) however I'm unable to print because my ink cartridges I purchased are not "remote" The customer support indicated the ink I have will NOT work? Frustrating I spent over $50 already.

I opted out their Ink subscription and Im being told I may need to subscribe... however, I have no interest in paying a monthly fee.

The customer number I called was (Phone number removed), during call I was transferred 3 times. (I believe the calls were overseas tech support) What's worse as were troubleshooting  "Chris" (I had to ask him to repeat question, his accent was hard for me) indicated he needed to see my ink cartridges so I allowed him remote access to iPhone ( he text a link) He wanted to order me the correct ink cartridges so he asked for my address, what surprised me- he apparently google mapped  my home and told me he did. (Why would he do that?)  So he claimed he will be sending me a free supply of cartridges but it It took him long  to process and he was silence. I kept asking what's the delay? (darn near 5m),I felt very uncomfortable and hung up.

Today, I still can't print!!!  even after I connect a hardwire to the printer port, it still sends me an error page of the ink not being supported. ( Im so frustrated I plan on taking this printer back and currently Im unable to reach anyone else in support- I lost trust.

Hi @Concerned144

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm really sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with both the HP DeskJet 2855e printer and the support you received. It sounds like you’ve encountered several challenges with both the ink cartridges and customer service, which must be very frustrating.

Let’s address the ink issue and some of your concerns:

1. Ink Cartridge Compatibility

It seems that you’ve encountered a compatibility issue with the ink cartridges. HP DeskJet 2855e printers typically use HP 67 ink cartridges (both black and color) or HP 67XL for higher yield options.

  • If you purchased HP 67 cartridges, but they’re not working, it could be because they're not the correct model for your printer or might not be recognized due to an issue with the printer's firmware.
  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you have are specifically listed as compatible with the HP DeskJet 2855e printer.

What to Do:

  • Double-check the ink cartridge part numbers on the box and ensure they are HP 67 or HP 67XL. If not, the cartridges may not work with your printer.
  • If you believe you received the wrong cartridges, you might want to consider returning them for a refund and purchasing the correct HP 67 ink cartridges directly from HP or a certified retailer.

2. Ink Subscription (HP Instant Ink)

I understand your concern about HP Instant Ink, which is a subscription service for ink delivery. The HP DeskJet 2855e is often bundled with Instant Ink offers; however, this is optional, and you do not have to sign up for this service.

  • HP Instant Ink is not required for normal printing, but if you are using HP’s official Instant Ink cartridges, they are designed to work with this service. If you do not wish to subscribe, you should opt for regular HP 67 ink cartridges.

3. Troubleshooting Printer Not Recognizing Ink Cartridges

If the error is still showing even after making sure you have the correct ink cartridges, here are a few steps to try:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off your HP DeskJet 2855e.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 30 seconds and then plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Recheck to see if the error persists.

Step 2: Reinstall the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer access door and carefully remove both the black and color ink cartridges.
  • Inspect the metal contacts of the cartridges for any dirt or debris and gently clean them with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges carefully, ensuring they are securely seated.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

  • Sometimes, the printer may need a firmware update to recognize new ink cartridges.
  • You can check for a firmware update using the HP Smart App or through HP’s official support website.

Step 4: Reset Printer to Factory Settings

If the problem persists, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings:

  • Press and hold the Cancel button and the Wireless button on the printer simultaneously for 5 seconds. This should reset the printer’s wireless and settings back to default.

Step 5: Test the Ink Cartridges

  • After doing these steps, try printing a test page from the printer settings to see if the issue resolves

I hope this helps.
