My HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4645 Printer Serial No. [edited] shows error message "Incompatible Cartridges". When I insert the correct serial number, I am getting an invalid number error although HP Smart tells me the only problem is the "incompatible cartridges" and so I cannot print today although 2 days ago I was able to printer using the Black Cartridge - 662 CZ103A. I am requesting urgent assistance. Please email me asap at [edited] if you can assist

Hi @Amagonian,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4645 is showing an “Incompatible Cartridges” error even when using the correct black cartridge, preventing you from printing. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this urgently:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure you are using the exact HP cartridge model listed for your printer (for example, HP 662 Black - CZ103A).

If it’s a refill or third-party cartridge, the printer may not recognize it.

Reinstall the Cartridge

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Remove the cartridge and inspect it for protective tape or packaging left on the contacts.

Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Let it dry for a few minutes, then reinstall.

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check if the “Incompatible Cartridge” error clears.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can sometimes prevent new cartridges from being recognized.

Use HP Smart or go to HP Support to download the latest firmware for your printer.

Try a Different Cartridge (if possible)

If available, try a new genuine HP cartridge to confirm if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.
