macOS 10.15 Catalina

I purchased brand new ink specifically from HP for this printer and installed it correctly. The alignment page prints out in black and white. I tried to print out any of my documents it will only print out in black and white. I am unable to copy in color too. I have tried printing from both macOS 10.15.7 and Windows 10 and tried all setting options available multiple times but no matter what I do I can only get black and white to print from the ten plus documents I have tired.

 

Getting ready to throw this thing in the dumpster, it's been glitchy from day 1. How do I get it to print in color?

@FkAngryPrinter, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

  • Do you have any blinking lights on the printer?
  • Check the ink levels and make sure the printer is detecting both the ink cartridges. Also, check the level of ink in the new color ink cartridge.
  • Make sure the plastic tape if any is removed from the new ink cartridge before placing it in the printer.

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.

Kindly perform steps 12 and 11 from this document - Black Ink Not Printing and Other Print Quality Issues

Once done, print a print quality report or try making a color copy on the printer.
