HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I've had the HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer for several years with no problems until recently. I bought new ink (the correct type for this printer in all 4 colors) maybe 6-8 months ago, and the black ink just doesn't want to print properly. Either it isn't visible at all or it's really faint. The color prints fine. I've followed the steps on HP Deskjet 3520 Printers - Black Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues | HP® Customer Support with no luck. I downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor, and uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled updated drivers. I'm not sure what else to try. I've tried printing so many test pages, print quality reports, clean printhead pages, etc that now my color ink is running low but my black ink still has over half remaining. Despite this, the color prints pretty normally but the black is very faded (or not visible at all). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi@Sunbear37,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing print quality issues with the HP Deskjet 3520 E-All-In-One Printer.

I have a few recommendations

  • To resolve most print quality issues, use genuine HP cartridges, and in some cases, you might need to allow the printer to complete the automatic servicing routine. Check the paper and print settings to make sure that they are correct for the print job, and clean the cartridges and printhead.
  • if the issue still persist then it could be a hardware issue.

I would request you to contact our HP Support Engineers and should be able to sort this out. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

@Dilip_18,

Thanks for the response! When you say 'clean the cartridges and printhead,' what does that entail? I've tried the clean printhead setting on the printer a few times. Is there a manual process for cleaning the cartridges and printhead?
