Hi @Durbs5862

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with color printing on your HP Deskjet 4100e even though the printer is able to print color test pages. This can be caused by a variety of factors, from incorrect settings to driver issues. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings

Ensure that your printer settings are not set to print in black and white (grayscale) only.

Windows:

  1. Open the document you want to print.
  2. Click on File > Print.
  3. Choose the HP Deskjet 4100e from the list of printers.
  4. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
  5. Look for the Color tab or Quality Options.
  6. Make sure Color is selected (not Grayscale or Black & White).

Mac:

  1. Open the document you want to print.
  2. Click on File > Print.
  3. Select HP Deskjet 4100e as the printer.
  4. Click on the Media & Quality tab.
  5. Ensure the Color option is selected.

2. Check the Ink Cartridges

Even if your color test prints are coming out fine, the ink levels or the condition of the cartridges could still be a factor.

Check ink levels: Use the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to check the ink levels. If the color cartridges are low or empty, replace them with new ones.

Reinstall the ink cartridges: Try removing and reinstalling the ink cartridges to ensure they are seated properly.

3. Print a Color Test Page

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
