Hi @DebB400,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Power off the printer:

  • Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
  • If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

Open the cartridge access door:

  • Reach inside the printer and grasp the handle, then lower the ink cartridge access door.
  • The carriage will move to the center of the printer.
  • Opening the cartridge access door

Manually moving the carriage:

  • Gently attempt to move the carriage to the left or right to better access the jammed cartridge.

Removing the jammed cartridge:

  • Lightly press down on the jammed ink cartridge to release it. If it does not release, you may need to wiggle the cartridge gently while pulling it out.
  • Removing the ink cartridges from the carriage

Inspect the carriage and cartridge:

  • Once the cartridge is removed, inspect the carriage for any visible damage or debris.
  • Clean the area lightly with a lint-free cloth if necessary.

  • Cleaning the contacts in the carriage

Reinstall the correct cartridge:

  • After resolving the jam, insert the color ink cartridge into its correct slot on the left and the black ink cartridge into the slot on the right.

  • Image: Snap the ink cartridge into place

Close the cartridge access door:

  • Close the ink cartridge access door.

  • Closing the cartridge access door

Power on the printer:

  • Reconnect the power cord and press the Power button to turn the printer back on.

By following these steps, you should be able to safely resolve the cartridge jam issue.

I hope this helps.
