HP ENVY 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there - I have an HP ENVY 4520. The last few times I have tried to use it, the black ink wasn't fully working (it wasn't streaky, just wouldn't print certain letters/pictures, only others) and now the black ink is not working entirely. Color works fine. I have replaced the cartridge 3 times, followed all of the troubleshooting responses on this site, and tried to print from a different OS...no luck. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Hello @swhips929 .
The black cartridge is not refilled?
What are the steps you have performed?

Thanks for the quick response. It is a new black cartridge (which I had a new black cartridge in there, and replaced it with a different new one). I also performed the following:

1. Reset the printer

2. Updated the firmware (tried to make a black photocopy, it acts like it's printing but the page comes out blank)

3. Followed the steps/troubleshooting tips in the following link: https://support.hp.com/lamerica_nsc_carib-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/... (they are genuine HP cartridges, I cleaned them, I used the printer to clean them [2 steps], I checked the printer settings, I'm using the right paper, I aligned the printer, etc.)

It doesn't seem like a hardware issue to me because black ink would work sparingly in the past once the issue began, but now it's just completely not working. I hope this information helps, thanks.

@swhips929 .

What is the number of black cartridge you use?
Were both the printer and the printer purchased in the same country?
Are there any errors displayed on your PC as well as on the printer?

@GOLD_MASTER The cartridge number is 63, and yes the printer was purchased in the US and I have only purchased ink cartridges directly from HP. There are no errors on either the printer or the computer - when I run troubleshooters/diagnostics it always says that everything is working fine. The printer performs the act of printing, just the pages come out blank if they are in black/white, or with only certain colors and without black if printed in color.

  3. If a screen displays prompting to turn on printer updates, click Yes and continue.
  4. If a screen displays prompting to make your printer the default printer, click Yes and continue.
