Jill,
Hello:) I picked up this HP ENVY 5055 second hand. I purchased a new a HP 65 ink cartridge for it. It worked fine for while and then quit on me. I'm getting the (Cannot print. Visit www.hpinstantink.com for information) I have no way of knowing if the previous owner had an account with HP for printing services. I don't print often and would prefer to buy my own cartridges. There is a better chance that the ink would dry up before I use it all. Is there anyway to solve this problem???
Thanks
Scott

The HP printer should work with a traditional HP cartridge whether it's signed up for Instant Ink or not. If you are using Non-instant Ink cartridges it should never lock you out from printing. If your using even 1 of the cartridge that came in the printer when you bought second hand it may be Instant ink cartridges which won't work since it sounds like you don't have an account. Just double check that ALL the cartridges you are using don't say Instant Ink. Buying an HP 65 is only black so you may need to buy a new color cartridge also. If they don't say Instant Ink then you may want to call the HP Instant Ink support for help so they can help disconnect this printer from the previous owners account. If you go to Instantink.com you will find the support phone number to the right in the middle of the page.
Give them a call.
