HP ENVY 6055 All-In-One Printer

My printer won't print red for some reason. I've checked the ink cartridges levels and it seems red is full enough. I've tested printing red and it only comes out as yellow.

Hi @SimonGoodmen,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 6055 printer is printing yellow but not red, even though the ink levels appear sufficient, there are a few likely causes — most commonly, a clogged or partially blocked tri-color cartridge, especially in the magenta ink nozzle, which is required to produce red.

Let’s walk you through the right steps to get red printing again.

1. Run a Printhead Cleaning

  • On your printer or via the HP Smart app:
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
    • Run the cleaning cycle once or twice
    • Print a diagnostic page to check if magenta is printing

If magenta is still missing, continue to the next step.

2. Check the Ink Cartridge

  • Remove the tri-color cartridge
  • Gently blot the nozzle area on a paper towel — you should see cyan, magenta, and yellow dots
  • If magenta is missing:
    • Try gently wiping the nozzles with a lint-free cloth and distilled water
    • Let it dry and reinstall

3. Align the Printer

  • In the HP Smart app or printer menu:
    • Go to Printer Maintenance > Align Printer
    • This can help recalibrate ink flow

4. Try a New Cartridge

If magenta still doesn’t print:

  • The cartridge may be clogged or defective
  • Try replacing the tri-color cartridge with a new genuine HP cartridge

5. Update Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
