I received this printer off Facebook a year ago. I just set it up and realized that it does not print very well. More specifically, It shoots blanks when I try to print black (ie. Word document), and only prints a yellowish-green stripe on printer quality reports. I would love to see if it is a software issue before buying more cartridges. Ink levels are about 1/5th full, but still have plenty of life in them.

By the way, @HP Support, the user experience for printers is just abysmal. My time is by far the most valuable thing to me and the troubleshooting process for HP printers has always been the most colossal, hair-ripping, waste of time. It misleads it's consumers and discourages problem resolution in order to push the sale of a new printer. It is utterly despicable. I have better product support with my laptop. Guess what? it's an HP as well. It's a bit odd that your customer support is more user-friendly for some products than others.

Hi @ReidBuck,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 7640 e-all-in-one printer is not printing correctly, there can be various reasons behind the issue. You can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.
Check Ink Levels: Ensure that your printer has enough ink or toner to complete the print job. Low ink levels can result in faded or incomplete prints.
Print a Test Page: Most printers have a built-in test page function. Printing a test page can help you determine if the issue is with the printer itself or the computer/software you're using to print. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to print a test page.
Clean the Print Heads: Over time, print heads can become clogged with dried ink. Many printers have a cleaning utility in their settings or software. Use this utility to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions.
Check Paper and Settings:
- Make sure you are using the correct type and size of paper as specified in the printer's manual.
- Verify that the paper settings in your computer's print dialog match the paper loaded in the printer.
- Ensure that you are selecting the correct print quality settings. Sometimes, selecting a lower print quality can help if you're facing issues.
Update or Reinstall Drivers: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing problems. Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 7640 printer. Install them on your computer.
Restart Your Printer and Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart of both your printer and computer can resolve printing issues.
Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP often release firmware updates to address printing issues and improve performance.
Check for Error Messages: If there are error messages displayed on the printer's control panel or on your computer screen, take note of them. These messages can provide clues about the nature of the problem.
Run Troubleshooters: On your computer, you can run built-in troubleshooting tools that can help identify and fix printing issues. For Windows, you can use the "Troubleshoot" option in the Control Panel. For Mac, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners" and select your printer, then click the "Open Print Queue" button and choose "Troubleshoot."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
