My HP ENVY 7855 will not print in color from my iMac. It would in the past but has recently stopped. The printer will scan in color and print diagnostic reports in color. It will only not print from the computer in color. I have update my driver, reinstalled the printer, etc and the problem persists. I have macOS Sonoma version 14.4.

Hi @MR-MH,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it must be when your printer suddenly stops printing in color, especially when it has worked fine before. Let’s try to figure out what’s causing the issue and get it resolved.
- Have you checked the print settings on your iMac to ensure that color printing is enabled instead of grayscale or black and white?
- Are you experiencing this issue with all applications, or only with specific ones (e.g., Word, PDF viewers, etc.)?
- Have you tried printing from a different user account on your Mac to see if the issue persists?
Let's try these steps.
Check Print Settings:
- When printing, go to “Print” in the application, select “Show Details,” and ensure the “Color” option is selected instead of “Black & White” or “Grayscale.”
Reset the Printing System:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-click the printer, and select Reset Printing System, then re-add the printer.
Update Printer Driver and Firmware:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers and firmware updates specific to your macOS Sonoma version.
Test with HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store, then try printing from the app to check if color printing works.
Try Printing via AirPrint:
- Remove the HP driver and re-add the printer using Apple’s AirPrint by selecting the printer in System Settings > Printers & Scanners, then choosing “Use: AirPrint” instead of HP driver.
