Hi
Recently bought two of these printers, three weeks apart, both with the extended warranty pack, from the beginning I noticed that the ink usage seemed high, so after 4 full sets of ink replacement and changing different print options to no avail, to give you an idea one printer done 427 email prints, largely black prints, no photos etc 4 black and 4 colour cartridges used, the other 168 black and 48 photos same again 4 of each cartridges I contacted support to see if there is an issue with this model of printer, what terrible customer service, from the start wanted me to sign up to instant ink, not addressing if there was issues with the printers, then being passed from one department to another and getting nowhere, eventually an agent said that they would escalate the issue and would get back to me, today i had an email stating case closed as the printers were over 30 days, on is only 4 days over! and saying that they are will to send me a refurbished printer instead! Has anyone else had high ink usage on this model of printer? and also if anyone has the UK complaints contact as the chat and general support number you ring dont really want to know.
Thank you Paul

Hi @DerwenComp,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding excessive ink usage on the HP ENVY Inspire 7220e!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I’m truly sorry to hear about the challenges you’ve faced both with ink usage and customer service. I completely understand how frustrating it can be, especially after investing in two new printers and extended warranties.
Let me try to help you sort this out and ensure your concerns are properly addressed.
Based on your usage details, the ink consumption does seem higher than expected, especially for standard black and white email prints. Here are a few things you can check or adjust:
Print Settings:
Go to Printer Properties before printing → Ensure you're using “Black & White” or “Draft” mode when photo quality is not needed.
Disable "HP Enhanced Print Quality" unless printing high-res content.
Avoid the "Best" quality setting unless necessary.
Printer Driver & Firmware:
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Cartridge Calibration:
Open HP Smart app → Select Printer Settings → Run "Align Printhead" and "Clean Cartridges" if you're getting frequent low ink notifications.
HP Instant Ink Consideration:
HP Instant Ink does optimize ink cost if you print regularly, but it’s completely optional. You're absolutely entitled to use standard cartridges, the suggestion to switch should never overshadow troubleshooting.
I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi
Thank you for your reply, unfortunatly I have tried all that you have suggested with no difference at all, no matter what I have tried the ink usage doesnt change, I explained this to the support agents, I have tried them on a windows 10 machine and windows 11 evan an apple mac with same high usage, looking at it I should of just requested a refund after the first couple of sets but was trying to cover all aspects before calling support stating what the issues were and asking for a refund. After 20 plus years of buying HP products as trade customer its now time to move onto another manufacturer who actually support their products and customers.
