My HP ENVY 5055 is giving the message "the indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer." I cannot print anything. I have read through the recommendations and posts.
I've tried numerous times:
- unplugging the printer and resetting
- cleaning cartridges/readers
-replacing cartridges
- ensuring Cartridge Protection and Send Usage Info are disabled/off.
-updating firmware
I currently have an HP color cartridge and a non-HP black cartridge.
Have used the non-HP brand of cartridge for years and never had a problem (and have them in bulk). When inserting the old and empty non-HP black cartridge, the problem goes away. Either way I cannot print anything. I need a solution. Cannot spend more $$ to resolve this. Please help.

Hi @mxth3y,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried many troubleshooting steps, which is great for narrowing down the issue. Since you've tried various methods and the problem persists, here are a few additional suggestions:
Clean the Cartridge Contacts Thoroughly: Remove the cartridges again and carefully clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Make sure they are completely dry before reinserting them.
Check Cartridge Compatibility: While you've been using non-HP cartridges without issues before, sometimes firmware updates or changes in printer settings can affect compatibility. Make sure the non-HP cartridge you're using is compatible with your specific printer model. Sometimes, using third-party cartridges can cause issues due to differences in chip technology or ink quality. We always recommend using genuine HP ink cartridges.
Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, firmware updates can introduce compatibility issues with third-party cartridges. Check if there are any new firmware updates available for your printer and install them if necessary. However, be cautious if the printer is currently working, as updating firmware can sometimes introduce new issues.
Factory Reset: As a last resort, you could try performing a factory reset on your printer. This will restore the printer to its original settings and may help resolve any software-related issues. However, keep in mind that this will also erase any custom settings you've configured on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
