HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer

I have an Envy 4500 All in One printer.  The error message on my printer states, "incompatible cartridge(s).  The indicated cartridges (below is the symbol for the black ink cartridge) are not intended for use in this printer."  I had a black HP cartridge in the printer and got this message but I thought that it was low on ink so I replaced the black ink cartridge (I purchased the ink from Amazon however it is a HP ink cartridge) and I am still getting this error message.  I contacted the virtual assistant and followed the steps of rebooting the printer by unplugging it and it did not work same error message, cleaning the ink cartridges and inside the printer and same message, and I replaced the black ink same message.  I also removed the black ink cartridge and got the message that it was going to print in single cartridge mode with the color ink.  The printer printed a test page with the color ink in which the page was blank and then the printer asked me to print an alignment page in which the page was blank. I also, tried to print something from my computer by using the color option and same thing the page printed out blank.  Should I purchase a black ink cartridge from the HP store or will I get the same error message?  Also, why won't the printer at lease print out in color?  Please advise.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi @BooBoo18,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a print quality issue with your HP  printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Does the copy print out the same way?
  • What's the application you are trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing from a different application or device?

While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

You may also refer to this document with steps to fix the " Print Quality Issues" issue applicable to your printer -  Print Quality Issues

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Also refer to the steps mentioned in this document: HP Inkjet printers - Ink cartridge errors

You may try a single cartridge mode using only the color by removing the black to check if it can copy using only color. If that works that indicates the color ink fine.

If the issue still persists with black ink, I'm sending out a private message to assist you with the next course of action.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
