HP Envy 4500 Series
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I recently came home after being gone for 3 months, and my HP Envy 4500 will no longer print in tri-color ink. The color cartridge in question is an HP 61 tri-color that I've had for a few months, and was working fine before I left. The ink levels, both on my printer interface and any connected computer, show clearly that tri-color is about three quarters full, so there should be ink left. The cartridge also looks clean upon opening it up.

It's also worth noting that I recently purchased a new black ink cartridge, loaded it and it's working great. However, any test pages I print, only the black ink comes through — either no color or in some cases, a faint, washed-out blue.

I've tried restarting the printer, reloading each ink cartridge, performing a printer alignment, cleaning the printhead, etc. I've also made sure I don't have any settings turned on to print only in black and white.

Is the color cartridge faulty? Or is the ink out and for some reason the levels have not been reflected? (This shouldn't be the case, as I haven't used it that frequently.) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi @redozark,

If you have already performed the steps from the document Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!
